Divination, Cowrie Shells & Traditional Spiritual Healing
Designed for travelers seeking a deeper immersion into Benin's spiritual and therapeutic traditions, this experience combines the discovery of ancestral knowledge with a genuine introduction to the foundations of the Fâ divination system and traditional spiritual healing practices.
Beyond meeting renowned traditional practitioners, you will take part in two immersive initiation workshops led by experienced Bokonons (Fâ priests) and highly respected practitioners, guardians of knowledge that has been passed down through generations.
In Cotonou, you will attend an intensive three-day workshop dedicated to learning the use of cowrie shells and the Okpèlè, the two principal instruments of Fâ divination. Conducted by a panel of approximately five Bokonons under the guidance of a distinguished Fâ master, this workshop will introduce you to the fundamental principles of divination, the operation of the Fâ system, and the interpretation of cowrie shell readings and the first divinatory signs.
You will then travel to Agonlin, a region renowned for the richness of its traditional healing heritage, where you will participate in a second three-day initiation workshop focusing on traditional spiritual healing practices. Under the supervision of experienced practitioners, you will discover the core principles of spiritual healing, the role of medicinal plants, traditional purification methods, and an introduction to Ifá, while gaining a deeper understanding of the place these practices hold within Beninese communities.
During your journey through Agonlin, you will also stop in Abomey to experience an authentic Fâ consultation with a Bokonon as a client, allowing you to observe firsthand how a traditional divination session is conducted.
This experience is offered exclusively for cultural, educational, and heritage purposes, with the utmost respect for Benin's living traditions and local customs.

After breakfast, start the workshop in Cotonou.

Introduction to Fa divination and its cultural significance.

Return to hotel.
Day 4, - Abomey : Custumized consultation with two local Bokonons in Abomey
Departure for Abomey, the historic capital of the Kingdom of Dahomey.

Guided cultural tour of Abomey's historical heritage.
Depart to Agonlin.
Day 4, 5, 6 - Agonlin : Ancestral Knowledge and Medicinal Plants
Agonlin, a region well known for its traditional medicinal knowledge.
Activities include:
Meeting one or more traditional healers selected according to your interests.
Discovery of medicinal plants and traditional preparation techniques.
Cultural exchanges with local practitioners.
Lunch.
Return to Cotonou.
